Bredouille a map of where mushrooms grow

An app that shows where and when conditions are good for finding mushrooms, anywhere in mainland France. We designed and built it.

Beta, Android first

Three Bredouille app screens: the map of France for ceps, why a spot scores the way it does based on recent rainfall, and the illustrated cep page.
Species
8, including ceps (porcini), chanterelles and morels
Area
All of mainland France, at 1 km resolution
Forecast
Today and the next 7 days
Stack
Python, Expo, Cloudflare, Météo-France data

The idea

Before going mushroom picking, people check whether it rained and hope for the best. Bredouille does the maths: every day, the map shows where conditions are better than usual, for today and the week ahead.

The app never says whether a mushroom is edible. Each species is shown next to its toxic lookalike.

A map you can check

Bredouille was tested against real, dated finds from 2010 to 2025, and the results are published. Of 730 dated cep finds, 117 fell on days the map rated among the best for that spot. Chance alone would give 73.

How we built it

A team of AI agents wrote the code, text and illustrations.

We decide what gets built, test the app and approve every release.

Open source

The connector that lets you ask Claude or ChatGPT “is it a good time for ceps near Tulle this weekend?” is published on GitHub.
